Lining types of our gloves

At Schwartz & von Halen, quality is our top priority, especially for our glove linings. We carefully select the best linings, emphasizing comfort and warmth.

Our linings provide an ideal balance of softness and warmth retention, ensuring comfort for extended wear, whether cycling or walking. They also offer good breathability, enhancing overall comfort.

Our collection includes gloves made from various leathers, linings, and functionalities, allowing you to choose the perfect pair. Below, we’ve listed the linings used in Schwartz & von Halen gloves:

Wool & Cashmere

Many of our gloves contain a combination lining of 85% (knitted) sheep's wool and 15% cashmere.

Sheep's wool is a product that has tremendous benefits. Wool is an excellent insulator, which means that it warms in a cold environment, but ventilates in a warm environment. This effect is due to the spiral curl that wool has. Wearing gloves with a wool lining maintains temperature. In short: warm hands.

Also, wool can absorb up to 40% moisture without feeling wet, which is very nice when your hands sweat inside your gloves. Wool makes sure you don't notice this.

Moreover, wool is a durable liner, with a long lifespan. In fact, wool is 100% biodegradable and recyclable. Also, wool has a self-cleaning function, this means that you do not need to wash wool, airing it is enough. In addition, wool is resilient, therefore you will never feel false creases in your lining.

To this versatile sheep's wool we have added 15% cashmere wool. Where the wool provides all the benefits you can read above, the cashmere in this blend provides the softness and comfort. All in all, an ideal combination!

We use only virgin wool for the 85% wool lining in our gloves. New wool is the undamaged wool, which is shorn from a healthy and living sheep.

We want to emphasize that the wool we use in our gloves comes from farmers who use ethical and sustainable methods in terms of animal welfare, land management and biodiversity. The welfare of the sheep and the land on which they graze is therefore paramount to our wool suppliers. The sheep wool we use for the Schwartz & von Halen gloves has been sheared in an animal-friendly manner by a professional sheep shearer.

Lambswool

For some of our gloves, we have chosen to line them with lambswool.

Lambswool is shorter in structure than sheepskin, but therefore also softer and feels luxurious. You will therefore find that the gloves with a lambswool lining are wonderfully soft to wear and have a high level of comfort. Because making a lambswool lining takes more time than a wool-cashmere lining, for example, you will see that these gloves also have a slightly higher price on our website.

The advantages of a lambswool lining are basically the same as a wool lining: lambswool is an excellent insulator, absorbs perspiration well, is durable, and has the same self-cleaning function as wool.

Fleece

As an alternative to the above linings, we also carry gloves with a fleece lining.

Fleece is a knitted and brushed type of fabric. This fabric has many advantages: Namely, fleece is extremely soft, lightweight and breathable. A fleece lining does not wrinkle, and is comfortable because of its soft fibers.

The biggest advantage of fleece, however, is that this fabric is highly insulating, making it very suitable for use in gloves. The strength of fleece lies mainly in its ability to retain the layer of air (insulation). Because gloves with a fleece lining are so warm, fleece is also processed in almost all winter sports gloves.

Because fleece consists of 100% synthetic fibers, recycled polyester fibers from PET bottles, for example, can be easily processed into fleece fibers. This makes fleece a durable lining that lasts a very long time.

Of course, a fleece lining is a great alternative for those who are allergic to wool.

Sheep fur / Shearling

Reversed lambskin, also known as shearling or sheep fur, is one of the most luxurious and warm linings available for gloves. It’s crafted by using both the leather side of the lambskin and the woolly fur, creating a soft, insulating layer that is ideal for cold weather. This natural material offers exceptional warmth, trapping heat while allowing the skin to breathe, making it perfect for outdoor activities in winter.

One of the unique qualities of reversed lambskin is its balance between softness and durability. The wool side provides a plush feel that cushions the hands, while the leather side ensures a sturdy and long-lasting glove. This combination makes shearling-lined gloves not only extremely comfortable but also highly practical, as they remain supple and flexible even in freezing temperatures.

In addition to its functional benefits, reversed lambskin also has a natural moisture-wicking property, keeping your hands dry and warm without overheating. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a glove lining that offers premium comfort and performance in harsh conditions, ensuring your hands stay protected and comfortable throughout the colder months.
